To know if it is really better or not I suppose I would need to compare them side by side in the same lighting condition and subject. I too am dabbling in a variety of things lately to see what really strikes me and what I might like to get better at. Why the dedicated macro lens and not use extension tubes (the route I have been thinking about)?
