Christmas Tradition
Dec 22nd, 2008 by jeremy
I have been laying off photography a bit recently, but a couple of nights ago I broke out the camera and took some photos of my daughter in front of the tree. We had this idea to hold up her ornament from this year, and I was pretty happy with the results. I wanted the focus on the ornament with 2 layers of blurred depth.
Every year each of kids get a new ornament which is added to the assortment on the tree. This year it was Christmas snow globes. Always a great event for our kids to kick off the season when they get to open their first wrapped gift of the ornaments.
As a combined early Christmas, birthday and general business investment, I purchased a new camear over the weekend. The Canon 5D Mk II is my first foray into a full frame digital SLR. I am very exited to put the camera through its paces and learn how to maximize the new capabilities it offers me. Stay tuned for some test photos and a little review of my initial impression.

That is an unique tradition- adding a new ornament each year and all the same new style. I like the idea of the snowglobe. Very cute.
Jeremy,
You always take great photos, in my opinion.
Best wishes this year for you and your family. Have fun getting to ‘know’ your camera!
I too one day want a full frame digitial SLR. I look forward to your review.
Are you going to have any lenses that don’t convert over? I seem to remember you shooting with a Sigma 10-20. What lens are you planning on using to replace that in your repertoire?
@Jer I am currently facing that dilemma in my research. I really enjoyed that 10-20, but it does not work on the full frame. I have been planning to keep everything for the 40D as a backup, but I may be rethinking that and selling a couple of lenses and possibly even that camera to invest in lenses for the 5Dii. If that is the case, I have some great gear I will be selling
I am looking at the 16-35 and 17-40 as some possible (expensive) choices.
I’ve thought the 17-40 looked good as well.
