Making the Cut
Nov 25th, 2008 by jeremy
I am at the final stages of sending my Osmond Tour book to print today. It has been long in development and even longer in the final editing/changes/publishing stages. It’s almost there, now down to just getting final printing arranged and getting delivered to the online stores that will be fulfilling it.
Through this process it has been very difficult to pick out which photos “make the cut” to the final pages of the book. In my previous publication, it was just one entertainer, so it was much easier to just look for various great shots of him. In this go around, there are 7 entertainers to try and fairly represent throughout the book; a much bigger task than I had previously anticipated.
Today’s image is one of the shots from the tour that I really like that just didn’t make the cut. I already had too many shots of Donny, and too many from the back of the stage. Though this was a poignant moment at the last concert in the UK, it also showed only Donny when the tour was about the entire family and not just him. Again, a tough decision, but in the editing process it hit the digital cutting room floor.
Perhaps someday I can publish a “photographer’s cut” kind of selection of my favorite shots taken over time and can include many shots that appealed to me as a photographer more than what needed to be included in a current publication.

Jeremy,
You certainly know how to brighten my day!
Thanks!
Jeremy! LOVE this shot! I think a “photographer’s cut” book would be a great idea! I’m sure you’ve got some incredible shots — like this one — that we’d never see otherwise. In the meantime, I’m really looking forward to this book. I understand your frustration. Really tough with so many perfectionists involved, huh?! LOL!! I’m sure the end results will definitely be well worth the wait!
While I am highly anticipaiting the “tour book” - I have to tell you that I would be first in line to purchase any table photo book you’d consider publishing of your personal favorites that didn’t make the cut. I’ve said it time and time again….you are a master at your craft and you have rekindled the desire in my to pursue my own passion for photography. Your shoes are somewhat too huge to fill.
Happy Thanksgiving and Happy Holidays!
Another great shot. I can imagine how difficult it must have been to pick which photos to use. This one would have been perfect for the back cover, but probably wouldn’t have been approved by the others. I’m just thinking of all those many photos that will never see the light of day..(to us anyhow) and would love to see a publication of some of those.
Thanks Jeremy

Jeremy,
Been waiting for the Tour book patiently! You do have an eye and take great photos! I can only imagine trying to get full approval from all 7 sibs! What a feat! LOL!
If you don’t publish a “missed the cut” edition…how about making them available to purchase? I’m sure you’d sell a truck load!
All the best for Thanksgiving to you and your family!

Great shot of Donny BTW…I’ve always enjoyed the behind the artist shots…see from his POV.
desperately waiting for this book. The shot of Donny from the rear was cut?????? Shame, I have a thing about Donny’s rear!!!!!
Looking forward to purchasing the tour book. I’ve enjoyed seeing all the photos you’ve shared thus far from the tour. I’ve become a big fan of YOURS through all these photos, not only of the Osmonds-but the ones you have posted on your blog and on flickr. Thanks for sharing your talent with us.
