Mmm…Chocolate
Dec 31st, 2007 by jeremy

I’m not a big fan of the Christmas baskets companies send each other, but I do like the especially good chocolate that comes in some of them. Today we are planning way ahead for some a business trip in April for AdTech San Francisco, so having this chocolate sitting on my desk caught my attention. There are plenty of good chocolate makers in the world, and Ghiradelli is one of them. You can argue which you like best, but I’m a fan of Ghiradelli. Really, how can you go wrong with chocolate and caramel together?

Love the DOF. And the lighting. Did you use a tripod or do you just have really steady hands? Or a VR lens?
Funny that the one thing that caught my eye was the blurred lower corner, softening some of the illustration of the candy. With the logo sharp, this blurred corner seemed incorrect to my eye. Was it intentional? I imagine that stopping down the aperature would have given you too much DOF, so maybe this was your best choice.
Regardless, it’s a great capture, and makes me crave some chocolate myself. My weakness is butter crunch from a local candymaker here on eastern Long Island (New York). Excuse me while I raid the candy dish!
Jeremy,
and not because I like chocolate !
Great picture
Judy,
I love butter crunch too ! My favorite used to be from Lofts (sp) candy store when I used to live in Long Island – yummy !
Judy – the shallow DOF was intentional, mainly because I wanted to keep the focus centered on the logo. The corner is a bit strong in the foreground, I would agree with that in a second look on the photo. The lighting was fairly dark, only using that which was coming in from a window, so I did stop it down for that as well so I could keep my ISO at 100 to avoid any noise in the dark areas.
This is handheld, with the 2.8 and IS on the lens, that helped keep things steady, but I like to think I can hold the camera pretty still as well
thanks for the comments.
*grin* Well, you can KEEP the chocolate and caramel. I’d rather have raspberry and dark chocolate.
When in April will you be in San Francisco?
Tentatively April 11-16. First few days for fun, the last couple for work
